MDF management software (sometimes called market development funds software or co-op funds software) tracks the money a vendor gives partners for marketing activities. It manages requests, approvals, claim submission, payout and budget caps. Channelo offers full MDF Requests, Claims and Budgets, a capability usually limited to legacy enterprise PRMs, at an accessible price and without enterprise complexity.

MDF IS WHERE PARTNER BUDGETS GO TO DIE.

Channel teams know the pain: a partner does a campaign, sends a PDF invoice three months later, and now someone has to reconcile it against an approval that lives in a Slack thread. Most accessibly-priced PRMs skip MDF entirely because building it properly is hard. The result is finance friction, slow payouts and partners who stop asking for funds.

    • MDF requests approved verbally or over email, with no audit trail
    • Claims arriving as PDF invoices that nobody can reconcile to an approval
    • No real-time view of how much MDF has been committed or paid per partner
    • Budgets blown because no system enforces the cap before approval

    HOW CHANNELO HANDLES MDF.

Channelo treats MDF as a first-class workflow. Partners submit MDF Requests through the portal with campaign details, expected ROI and supporting documents. Approvers see the request inside their Budget context, approve or deny, and the system commits the funds. When the activity runs, partners submit Claims with proof of execution; finance approves payout and the audit trail is automatic.

    • MDF Requests with campaign type, target audience, expected leads or pipeline and attachments
    • MDF Claims with proof of execution (invoices, screenshots, performance reports)
    • MDF Budgets at the program, region or partner level, enforced at approval time
    • Multi-step approval workflows with role-based permissions and notifications
    • Full audit trail from request to payout, exportable for finance and program reviews

    WHO IT IS FOR.

Vendors of any size who fund partner marketing and want enterprise-grade controls without enterprise PRM cost or complexity. MDF is the single feature where most accessibly-priced PRMs fall short, and where Channelo intentionally invests heavily.

    • Channel marketing leaders running through-partner or to-partner campaigns
    • Finance and channel ops teams that need defensible audit trails for MDF spend
    • Programs scaling from informal co-marketing to a structured MDF program
    FAQ

    QUESTIONS, ANSWERED.

What is MDF in channel sales?

MDF stands for market development funds. It is money a vendor allocates to channel partners to fund marketing activities (events, paid ads, content, demand generation) that drive pipeline for the vendor's products.

What is the difference between MDF and co-op funds?

MDF is typically discretionary and tied to a specific approved plan. Co-op funds are usually earned as a percentage of partner sales and can be spent on a pre-approved list of activities. Channelo supports both models using MDF Budgets and Requests.

Why do most accessibly-priced PRMs skip MDF?

Proper MDF needs request, approval, budget, claim and payout workflows with audit trails. Building that well is expensive, so most accessibly-priced tools simply leave it out. Channelo includes it as a core module.

Can we cap MDF by partner tier?

Yes. MDF Budgets can be defined per program, region or partner, and tier-based caps are enforced automatically at approval time using Tier Templates.
